Our Story
Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better. It’s not.
-Dr. Seuss
Andrew was born in Colorado Springs in 1992 and from a very young age he was enthralled with the natural world. That fascination quickly focused on insects, more specifically butterflies! His parents fostered this love by providing him his very own garden space in 7th grade (2004) and he got to work turning it into a pollinator paradise. That garden would be home to multiple species of butterflies as well as a hub for insect life in the yard. Upon graduating high school in 2010, he got a job at a local garden center/nursery and that is where his passion took flight!
He was able to educate others on how to construct sustainable habitats for butterflies with organic and natural practices. He would raise multiple species in store to share the wonder of metamorphosis with the public and show why they are a key part of our ecosystem. Then in August 2018, he decided to resurrect his old knowledge of pinning insect specimens he gained as a kid and spread 2 male Monarch butterflies that had passed on while living in his butterfly habitat at the garden center. These became his first 2 Insect taxidermy displays. That shot him down a rabbit hole of where to find responsibly sourced insect specimens, how to sell his art, how to start a business, etc. All while keeping in mind supporting the environment and highlighting pollinators in my native habitats.
Cronk Art & Curiosities began as a shared dream between Andrew Cronk and Chris Dantzler—a dream to create a space that celebrates the unconventional and provides a safe, welcoming environment for the queer community and beyond. The idea took root in 2021, when they decided to combine Andrew’s passion for art and nature with their shared desire to offer something truly unique to Colorado Springs.
In just 20 days, they transformed their first location into a vibrant haven for the curious, the quirky, and the creative. From framed insects to handcrafted artwork, their shop quickly became a beloved destination for those seeking items that spark conversation and curiosity. But more than the items themselves, Cronk Art & Curiosities became a place where everyone—especially the queer and creative community—could feel seen, valued, and inspired.
As the business grew, so did its mission. In early 2023, Andrew and Chris moved the store to a larger, central location, allowing them to expand their offerings and deepen their connection to the community. Today, the store hosts workshops, features local artists, and organizes the monthly "Moon Market," a craft fair that showcases incredible talent and fosters connection.
At its core, Cronk Art & Curiosities is about more than art or curiosities—it’s about creating a space where everyone can celebrate their individuality, embrace their weirdness, and let curiosity guide the way.
